Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) is a professional degree in medicine focused on Ayurveda. The course’s duration is five and a half years, including a year internship. The course aims at providing basic education in Ayurveda leading to the degree of B.A.M.S. It intends to prepare graduates of profound scholarship in the science of Ayurveda having basic and fundamental knowledge in different subjects of Ayurveda backed up by extensive practical training. Candidates who have passed higher secondary school certificate examination with physics, chemistry and biology subjects are eligible for this course.

Scope of BAMS:

BAMS has spread throughout the world and it’s career opportunities are innumerable –

  • The candidate having the BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) degree is eligible to be called as a doctor as well as to proceed with their private practice.
  • One can get a job in government Ayurveda hospital as an ayurvedic pharmacist.
  • After the completion of this course, candidates also have an opportunity to open their own retail shop of Ayurveda medicines.
  • Lecture ship is also an option for BAMS graduates. They can find employment in private and government Ayurveda Institutes.

  • Ayurveda

    Ayurveda is the “Science of life” – the first ever scientific system of medicine known to mankind since time immemorial. This is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. When the allopathic system falls through a particular disease and surrenders, Ayurvedic medicine does the miraculous effect to rejuvenate the patient’s health. The Vedic texts namely Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda which dates 5000B.C or earlier, form the basis of Ayurveda. The therapies used in Ayurveda are typically based on complex herbal compounds, minerals and metal substances (perhaps under the influence of early Indian alchemy or rasa shastra).
